Who is Subway?

history-sign-imageSubway is an American fast food restaurant franchise that primarily sells submarine sandwiches. It is owned and operated by the Doctors Associates Inc. and is the largest fast food chain in the world with over with 44,603 restaurants in 111 countries. The United States alone holds 27,058 Subway restaurants. Subways international headquarters is located in Milford Connecticut while their regional centers that support international markets are located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Singapore, Beirut, Lebanon, Australia, and Miami. 

Humble Beginnings 

Back in 1965, Fred DeLuca set out to fulfill his dream of becoming a medical doctor. In search for a way to help pay for his education, a family friend suggested he open a submarine sandwich shop. After receiving a loan of $1000 from his friend Dr. Peter Buck, Fred and Peter opened the very first Subway restaurant in August of 1965 in Bridgeport Connecticut.

By 1974 the duo had owned and operated 16 sandwich shops throughout Connecticut and later that year decided to begin franchising the business which launched Subway into a period of remarkable growth that continues to this day.

Subways Mission

Subway announced in 2013 that their mission is "To provide the tools and knowledge to allow entrepreneurs to compete successfully in the Fast Food industry worldwide, by consistently offering value to consumers through providing great tasting food that is good for them and made the way they want it." A mission that they continue to follow to this day, as Subway restaurants continue to open and operate successfully all over the world.
